Our Sevices: Fees & Insurance

Fees

Fees vary by the provider and the type of service being provided. Self-pay rates for individual psychotherapy begin at $200 per session; for couples, marital, and family therapy begin at $350 per session. Rates for individualized or extended sessions, or special matters (e.g., legal, custody, medical review) will be decided upon between the provider and client as needed.

Insurance

As a courtesy to all of our clients, we file insurance claims for all payers whether we are contracted or not, including billing secondary payers on Medicare claims. This allows us to maintain confidentiality using secure, HIPAA-compliant electronic billing. It also allows us to work directly with the payers' Case Managers and Medical Directors to obtain the services each client requires. After claims processing has been completed, the cient is then invoiced for their financial responsibility for any remaining balance.

Services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance. We are contracted with the following payers:

  • Medicare
  • Carelon / Beacon / ValueOptions
  • CIGNA / Evernorth
  • MHN / HealthNet

We also receive payment from or are able to make special arrangements with:

  • AARP
  • Aetna
  • Anthem / Blue Cross of CA
  • Blue Shield, Blue Shield FEP, Blue Shield MHSA
  • Humana
  • Magellan
  • United Healthcare / Optum / UBH (United Behavioral Health)
  • and other insurance carriers

Please note that we are not able to provide services to clents who are on Medicaid or Medi-Cal (including Health Plan of San Mateo, HPSM) as either your main insurance or as secondary coverage to Medicare ("Medi-Medi" plan).

Knowing Your Insurance Benefits
The most up-to-date information about insurance coverage is available on your insurance payer's website (often called something like "MyAnthem" or "MyHealthNet"). Look for "Behavior Health Benefits" or "Out-patient Psychotherapy". It will have information about in-network benefits, deductibles, and co-payments, as well as information about out-of-network benefits and costs. Our office can help you find this information, if needed. Or you can call the phone number on the back of your insurance card and ask to speak with a customer care representative about your benefits.

Medicare Advantage Plans
If you are on a Medicare Advantage plan (e.g., United Healthcare Medicare Advantage), call your plan to ask if they allow you to receive services from out-of-network providers. Most do not allow out-of-network providers. If they do not, you can still receive services from our providers if you agree to pay for the services yourself.

Payment by Credit Card
Payment is accepted via all major credit cards. When you begin therapy, we ask for credit card information. At the end of each month, we create an invoice that lists sessions you completed and have been paid for by your insurance. We then charge your credit card for the out-of-pocket costs (for example, deductibles, copayments) and send a detailed invoice and receipt to you. If you have an HSA or FSA account and want to submit a statement of sessions with payment amounts to receive reimbursement, that will be provided upon request.
